Alonissos belongs to the Northern Sporades Islands, prefecture of Magnesia; it is the third island in size after Skiathos and Skopelos; its population is about 2,500 habitants. On Alonissos and the surrounding smaller islands and islets finds its shelter the threatened with extinction monk seal Monachus -Monachus, as well as other rare species of flora and fauna; more than 300 different species of fish and 80 species of birds. This area is of exceptional ecological, geological, biological and scientific value and it is designated since 1992 as National Marine Park of Alonissos and Northern Sporades. Its foundation was a significant step for the safe and protection of the population of the Mediterranean seal.

The main characteristic of Alonissos is its marine nature and at short distance there are numerous small uninhabited islands and islets. The port Patitiri is not a typical picturesque Greek island village and this happens because it was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1965, thus all its buildings are modern. Chora (Palio Chorio) is a beautiful small village, a medieval settlement of interesting architecture, small cafés with gorgeous view and local art stores. Alonissos is a quite island, where you can enjoy complete relaxation. Of course there are many restaurants, picturesque bars and organized tours.
